Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, today acquired defenseman Ryan Mahrle (MAHR-lee) from the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for future considerations. The announcement was made by Head Coach Marty Raymond.

Mahrle, 23, has skated in all eight games for Gwinnett this season, with 1g-3a-4pts, scoring his lone goal on the power play. In 2007-08, his rookie season, he appeared in all 72 games for the Gladiators, recording 4g-14a-18pts. The 5-foot-11-inch, 175-lb. Mahrle made his pro debut in 2006-07 after wrapping up his college career with the Western Michigan University Broncos. He had nine points (all assists) in 13 games, and added 10 points (4g-6a) in 20 playoff games.

The Troy, Michigan, native skated four seasons at Western Michigan, and he led the team's defensemen in scoring each season. He received WMU's Neil Smith Most Valuable Defenseman award three times, and as a senior was named the Bronco Scholar Athlete of the Year and was a finalist for the CCHA All-Academic Team and Scholar Athlete of the Year.

What Marty Raymond is saying:

"We needed a reliable defenseman that can play on the power play, and Ryan can help us," said Raymond. "We're looking forward to getting him in the lineup this weekend and having him make an impact."
