
Shutout Vs. Durham Clinches Series Win

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Tides (23-8) shutout the Durham Bulls (17-14), 5-0, on Saturday night at Harbor Park. The Tides clinch the series vs. Durham, 4-1, while tossing their second shutout of the season.
The Tides scored first in the bottom of the second when Lewin Díaz hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Jordan Westburg to take a 1-0 lead. They doubled their lead in the fourth when Westburg launched a solo home run to make it 2-0.
Ryan Watson's night was over after the fourth without allowing a run. He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five. Nick Vespi came in relief in the fifth and allowed the bases to load but was able to get out of the jam.
Three more runs were scored by Norfolk in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Terrin Vavra hit an RBI unassisted groundout to first base to score the first run. Connor Norby followed with a two-run single to put the game at 5-0.
Chris Vallimont followed Vespi in the fifth and would finish the game to earn the save and complete the shutout. Vallimont allowed one hit and three walks while striking out six in his second save of the season.
Norfolk looks finish the series with a day game win tomorrow. Scheduled to start for the Tides is LHP Bruce Zimmermann (1-2, 3.38). RHP Cooper Criswell (1-1, 2.61) is expected to make the start for Durham.
POSTGAME NOTES
Elementary, Watson: Tides starter Ryan Watson went 4.0 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five...it's his second straight appearance with 4.0 scoreless outings, where he did so in relief on April 30 at Charlotte...the five strikeouts set a Triple-A career-high, with his most recent outing having at least that many was with Bowie at Harrisburg on August 7, 2022 when he struck out seven.
Wild Wild West: Extending his hitting streak to eight games is Jordan Westburg, who went 2-for-3 with ...it was his team-leading 12th multi-hit game this season...he led the 2022 Tides with 26 multi-hit games...during his eight game hitting streak that started in game two of a doubleheader on April 28 at Charlotte, he's batting .429 (15-for-35) with 11 runs, two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and two walks while slashing .459/.743/1.202...the home run was the 26th of his Norfolk career, ranking ninth all-time as an Orioles affiliate...it was also his 50th career home run and has surpassed 300 career hits.
Valli-Swag: Earning his second save of the season was Chris Vallimont...he tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hits and three walks while striking out six...his other save was also 4.0 scoreless innings on April 6 vs. Gwinnett...the Tides lead the league with 13 saves.
Norby Knocks: Getting a hit in his fifth straight game was Connor Norby, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI...during this series, he's hitting .381 (8-for-21) with three runs, three doubles, two RBI and a walk while slashing .435/.524/.959.
