Charlotte Knights News Release
(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) -- Chicago White Sox players Liam Hendriks and Yoán Moncada will each begin Major League Baseball rehab assignments with the Charlotte Knights starting tonight at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. First pitch of tonight's game is on tap for 7:05 p.m. against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves).
Hendriks, 31, was placed on Chicago's 15-day injured list on March 30 (retroactive to March 27) as he was undergoing treatment for Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He recently announced on April 20 that he is cancer free after completing chemotherapy on April 5. He is expected to pitch tonight at Gwinnett, his first appearance with the Knights on his rehab assignment.
Last season, Hendriks posted a 4-4 record with 37 saves and a 2.81 ERA in 58 games pitched (57.2 innings pitched). He is a three-time American League All-Star (2019, 2021-22).
Moncada 27, is currently on Chicago's 10-day injured list (since April 11) with lower back soreness. This season, Moncada is hitting .308 (12-for-39) with four runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and five RBI in nine games with the White Sox. Last season, the Cuban native appeared in 104 games with the White Sox and hit .212 (84-for-397) with 41 runs scored, 18 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 51 RBI and two stolen bases. He played six games with the Knights last season on rehab and hit .318 (7-for-22) with two home runs and five RBI.
