
Shorthanded Stingrays Fall 4-3 in Overtime to Nailers

Wheeling, WV -The South Carolina Stingrays (30-11-4-4) suffered their second straight overtime loss falling to the Wheeling Nailers (24-18-2-1) 4-3 in front of 3,006 at WesBanco Arena Saturday night. Forward Trent Campbell scored two assists in the loss.
The Nailers opened the scoring on power play at 9:15 of the first period. Forward Aaron Clarke knocked in a bouncing puck under the glove of Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly along the left-wing post for the 1-0 lead. Defensemen Alex Grant and Mitch Ganzak earned assists. The Stingrays tied the game on the power play with a goal from rookie Rob Ricci tapping in a pass from Campbell over the shoulder of Nailers goalie Adam Berkhoel. Defenseman Dylan Yeo registered the second assist. Nailers forward T.J. Fox reclaimed the lead at 17:19 from forward Thomas Beauregard and Ganzak.
Wheeling made it 3-1 early in the second period off a drive from defenseman Kyle Bushee from the right-wing point beating Connelly between the legs. Forwards Andrew Lord and Joey Haddad potted assists on Bushee's fourth goal of the season.
The Stingrays pulled within one on the power play at 9:04 of the third period from defenseman Nate Kiser. Forwards Gregg Johnson and Michael Dubuc pitched helpers. The Stingrays comeback would be completed at 14:48 off a shot from rookie Jake Hauswirth from forward Keith Johnson and Campbell. For the second straight night, the game moved into overtime where Nailers' Ganzak fired home a pass from Grant for the game-winning goal. Connelly suffers his second straight overtime loss stopping 23 of 27 Nailers shots. Berkhoel earned his fifth win of the season kicking away 24 of 27 Stingrays chances. The Nailers finished the night 2-for-4 on the power play while the Stingrays ended the contest 2-for-5.
