Chiefs Toppled By Toledo

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs were defeated by the Toledo Walleye Saturday night by a score of 7-4 at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial.

The Walleye jumped on the board quickly scoring on the first shot of the game. Derek Nesbitt chipped it in past John Murray just 43 seconds into the game with Maxime Tanguay and Adam Hobson registering assists. Johnstown answered back with Jonathan Ralph scoring his third goal in as many games. Matthew Myers was able to tip the puck to Dan Collins who got it to Ralph who fired it in top right. Just over two minutes later Connor Shields squeaked a puck past Walleye goalie Jordan Pearce at 10:20 with Chanse Fitzpatrick and Collins gaining assists. The Walleye were able to tie it up late in the period. Sebastien Piche scored a power play goal on a slap shot at 17:34. Dominic Osman and Malcolm MacMillan were awarded assists. The Walleye scored again at 18:48 in the first to go up 3-2. Adam Hobson tipped it in top shelf with Derek Nesbitt getting the assist.

Toledo registered the first goal of the second period to double up its lead. Chris Robertson scored his tenth of the season at 3:21 with Anthony Sarno and Mark Nebus registering the helpers. The Walleye continued to pressure the net and Derek Nesbitt scored his second of the game with Hobson and Joe Charlebois getting the assists at 11:12.

The Chiefs came out in the third with fire looking to work their way back in the game. Twenty seconds into the period Connor Shields won a face off in Walleye territory and was able to center it through the slot to an incoming Chanse Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick whizzed it past Pearce's stick side for his 21st of the season. With the crowd and the Chiefs instilling some energy into the arena the Chiefs scored again at 6:21. Sean Berkstresser battled for a puck back in the Chiefs zone and fed it across to Chris Zarb. Zarb soared all the way to the net and blasted it in top right to bring the score within one. At 15:36 in the third the Chiefs momentum was silenced by Hobson's second goal of the game. Tanguay and Nesbitt were awarded the assists. Nesbitt finished a hat trick on an empty netter at 19:34 with Piche gaining the assist.

Murray took the loss and made 21 saves in the game. The Chiefs went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs return to Johnstown Saturday, January 30 against the Toledo Walleye at 7:05. The Chiefs will be giving away pint glasses from The Crow's Nest to the first 1,000 fans 18 and up.
