BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The first matchup between the Pacific Division-leading Bakersfield Condors (26-12-2-1, 55 points) and the West Division-leading Idaho Steelheads (28-11-0-2, 58 points) was an all out war. The Steelheads came away with a 6-3 win on Friday at Rabobank Arena in front of 5,085 fans, who saw the most penalty-filled game of the season. The first major penalty didn't come until the 18:21 mark of the third period, but by the game's end, the Condors were whistled for 85 penalty minutes to the Steelheads' 26 penalty minutes. Head Coach Marty Raymond got into the action as well, receiving a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct and a game misconduct.

Idaho took a 2-0 lead on their first two shots of the game. C Tyler Spurgeon opened the scoring at 3:14, while LW Evan Barlow scored just a minute later for a 2-0 Steelheads advantage. The Steelheads controlled much of the play, out-shooting the Condors 13-6 in the opening frame.

In the second period, the Condors came to life, out-shooting Idaho 16-4 to begin the frame. Helped by five consecutive power plays, the Condors made it 2-1 when F Mathieu Aubin scored with the Condors on a 5-on-3 advantage at 5:49 of the second period. F Andrew Ianiero and D Eric Regan picked up the assists. The Condors tied it at two on RW Nick Kemp's fourth goal of the season at 7:44 of the middle frame. LW Shawn Weller and D Mark Mitera earned the assists. But Idaho took a 3-2 lead on C Kevin DeVirgilio's power play goal with 4:32 to play in the second period. By period's end, the Steelheads had matched the Condors' 16 shots and led overall 29-22. After two periods, a modest 34 minutes in penalties were called.

The final period of regulation saw tempers flare and penalties begin to pile up. Idaho grabbed a 4-2 lead just 28 seconds into the period on C Mark Flichel's power play tally. But the Condors once again showed some fight, cutting it to a 4-3 lead on LW Ryan Donally's third goal of the season with 4:11 left in regulation. C Maxime Macenauer earned the lone assists, weaving his way through the defense before centering a pass to Donnally. But that is as close as the Condors would get. A late penalty called against the Condors led to continuous shoving matches in the game's final three minutes. Weller and F Mark McCutcheon squared off in the only fight of the game, but D Chris Brooks, RW Erick Lizon also received 10-minute misconducts. Barlow and Devergilio tacked on power play goals to make it 6-3. Barlow finished the game with two goals and two assists. Former Condors forward Mark Derlago had four assists.
