Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Stockton, CA - In a Friday night contest, the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met in the second game of a three-game set at the Stockton Arena. Leland Irving made his Salmon Kings' debut in net, while the Thunder started Bryan Pitton.

The visiting Salmon Kings opened the scoring at the 11:15 mark of the opening period on the power play. Defenseman Gary Gladue controlled the puck just inside the blue line along the left wing boards and put a wrist shot on net that slid through traffic and through Pitton into the back of the net. Gladue's marker was his second of the season. Stockton knotted the score at 1-1 at 17:17 with a power play marker of their own. Igor Gongalsky fed the puck from the left goal line across the ice into the right faceoff circle for captain J.F. Caudron, who put a shot on net that was tipped home from just outside the crease by Colin Hemingway. The Thunder forward's goal was his 15th of the year, and sent the game into the first intermission tied at 1-1.

Stockton jumped out and took control in the middle frame with five goals that included two on the power play. Gongalsky netted two of the goals for the Thunder, while Hemingway, James Bates, and Matt Robinson also tallied for the home side. Stockton took their 6-1 lead into the third period.

The Thunder extended their lead to 7-1 as Gongalsky completed his hat trick with his 11th goal of the season 4:45 into the final frame. Caudron tallied his fifth assist of the night on Gongalsky's marker. Victoria outshot Stockton 20-11 in the third period but were unable to beat Pitton and cut into the Thunder's lead. Stockton 7 Victoria 1.

Victoria went 1/520.0% on the power play while Stockton was 3/650.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Thunder 40-34.
