Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, had their most successful month in February, both on and off the ice. Greenville went 10-3-1 through 14 games, while a total of 30,792 fans attended Grrrowl home games at the BI-LO Center. An average crowd of 4,399 fans watched Greenville go 7-0-0 at home during the month, highlighted by a shutout, an overtime win, and two shootout victories.
A season-high crowd of 6,603 fans watched Greenville shutout the first-place Charlotte Checkers on February 25th, with rookie goalie Jeff Deslauriers recording the win. Fans stuck around after that victory to watch "FFH" perform a free post-game concert as part of the annual Church Night at the BI-LO Center.
The previous season-high crowd was set on February 15th - Education Day - when 5,656 fans packed the BI-LO Center at 10:35 a.m. The crowd, which was made up predominantly of schoolchildren from around the Upstate, saw Greenville defeat the Louisiana IceGators 3-1.
Greenville's third-highest attendance during the month was set on February 19th, when the Grrrowl defeated American Conference rival Gwinnett, 2-1. As part of Scout Night at the BI-LO Center, 4,986 fans attended the game, with hundreds spending the night "camped out" on the concourse floor after the game.
With 14 games played in the month, Greenville took 21 out of a possible 28 points. The Grrrowl defeated South Carolina, Pee Dee and Louisiana two times each, and moved to within three points of first place of the Eastern Division. Greenville has now gone 12-3-1 since the All-Star break.
Colin Pepperall led the way for Grrrowl forwards in February, notching 12 points in the month on eight goals and four assists. Deslauriers went 7-1-1 with a 1.62 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage.
Greenville begins the month of March with a game in Trenton, NJ, against the Titans on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Grrrowl then travel to Charlotte, NC for a battle with the Checkers at Cricket Arena on Saturday.
