Unlucky Thirteen

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings found themselves in a familiar situation again on Monday with only thirteen skaters available to Head Coach Bryan Maxwell. The thirteen that were able to play, skated hard, checked hard and still found finding the back of the net hard.

It is difficult to walk away from a Victoria Salmon Kings loss and blame it on effort, because the players that are healthy leave everything on the ice, even if it is at the ten minute mark of the period.

On Monday the Salmon Kings and the Las Vegas Wranglers played the final of a three game set at Bear Mountain Arena, with the Wranglers beating Victoria 5-2. The game was much closer than the score though with the Wranglers Chris Stanley putting the game out of reach with just four minutes left in the third and then Vegas forward Darren Lynch scoring into the empty net to cap the score sheet.

The Wranglers jumped out to the early two goal lead in the first period on markers from Christian Chartier and Shawn Limpright. Scott Turner had the puck careen off his skate and past Marc Magliarditi to pull the Salmon Kings back within a goal heading into the first intermission.

Chris Stanley extended the Wranglers lead to 3-1 on a powerplay goal at 6:05 of the second period and that is the way the scoring stayed until Victoria Blueliner Jim Gattoliat scored his second of the season, at 8:05 of the third. Unfortunately for the Salmon Kings that is as close as they came.

Victoria goaltender Dan Blackburn held the Salmon Kings in the game until late in the third when the Wranglers were able to put them away.

The Salmon Kings get three days off to rest their bumps and bruises before welcoming the slumping Bakersfield Condors on Friday and Saturday March 4th and 5th. Game times are at 7:00pm at Bear Mountain Arena.

Tickets for all Victoria Salmon Kings home games are available by phone at 250-220-7777 or online at www.selectyourtickets.com.
