Wranglers Power Past Salmon Kings 5-2

Victoria, BC – The Las Vegas Wranglers (23-25-5, 51 points) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings (10-40-5, 25 points) 5-2 at the Bear Mountain Arena on Monday night. Las Vegas improved to 7-0-0 against Victoria this year. Defenseman Christian Chartier along with forwards Chris Stanley and Shawn Limpright each picked up a power-play goal in the win. Stanley added his second goal in the third period. Rookie Dustin Johner picked up two assists, giving him 14 points in seven games against Victoria. Wranglers' Captain Jason McBain picked up his 400th career point on an assist in the second period. The Wranglers head to Boise, ID for a three-game series with the Steelheads starting at 6:10 pm (PST) on Wednesday night.

In the first period the Wranglers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two power-play goals. Las Vegas scored on their first two power plays of the night, starting with Christian Chartier's eighth goal of the season at 3:18. Chartier rifled the puck from the point and through traffic for the 1-0 Las Vegas lead. The Wranglers extended their lead when Shawn Limpright scored for the second time in three nights at Victoria. Defenseman Mike McBain took a shot from the left point with Victoria goalie Dan Blackburn making the save. Limpright scooped up the rebound and backhanded his ninth goal of the season into the back of the net at 9:35. Victoria countered to cut the Las Vegas lead to 2-1 when Scott Turner redirected an Alexei Glukhov shot off his skate and into the net at 14:27. Turner's second of the season got the Salmon Kings within one.

In the second Las Vegas continued their power play perfection, scoring on their third straight opportunity. Captain Jason McBain sent a cross-ice pass to Limpright in the left-wing circle. Limpright fired back through the crease for Chris Stanley who scored his 13th of the season at 6:05 of the period. With the assist, McBain scored his 400th career point.

In the third, Victoria's Jim Gattoliat scored to cut the Wranglers lead to one at 3-2. Gattoliat's second goal of the season came just 8:02 into the period. Las Vegas center Chris Stanley scored his second of the night at 15:29 to increase the Wranglers' lead to 4-2. Winger Darren Lynch added an empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining.

The Wranglers are in the midst of an eight-game road trip ending Saturday, March 5th in Idaho. The Wranglers return home on Friday, March 11th and Saturday, March 12th when they host the San Diego Gulls at 7:05 pm. Friday night, the first 1,500 fans receive a Wranglers visor sponsored by Fox 5. On Saturday night, "Zooperstars" will perform at the game. Prior to the game on the 12th, Port of Subs will host the "Port of Subs" pre-game party in the parking lot of the Orleans Arena from 4:00-6:00 pm.
