
Michaud, Kasper and Maiser Reassigned to Worcester

Peoria, Ill. (March 1, 2005) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that sixth-year goaltender Alfie Michaud and rookie center Kris Kasper have been reassigned right back to the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate â the Worcester IceCats â after Saturday's 4-2 win over the Reading Royals. Christie also announced that rookie left wing Justin Maiser was reassigned to the IceCats for the first AHL reassignment of his career.
After arriving from Worcester earlier in the day, Michaud â a 5-foot-10, 177-pound native of Selkirk, Manitoba â stopped 24 of 26 shots on Saturday in Peoria's 4-2 win over the Reading Royals for his 17th win of the season (17-8-4). In two appearances with the IceCats this year, the 28-year-old netminder has a 2-0-0-0 record with a 1.50 goals against average (GAA) and a .930 save percentage. With three shutouts and three one-goal games in his last 16 Rivermen appearances, the veteran of two NHL games has compiled a 11-1-2 record over the stretch with a 1.53 GAA (23 GA in 899.75 min. played) and a .944 save percentage (385/408). The 2002-2003 ECHL Goaltender of the Year has a 17-8-4 record this season, a 2.03 GAA (2nd in the ECHL), three shutouts and a .929 save percentage with the Rivermen this season.
Kasper â a 5-foot-11, 197-pound native of Gibbons, Alberta â posted a +2 plus/minus and racked up a fighting major on Saturday in a 4-2 win over the Reading Royals after his return from Worcester earlier in the day. Last week, the 21-year-old pivot appeared in two games with the IceCats, registering one shot; it was the first AHL call-up of his career. On the season with the Rivermen, the 21-year-old pivot has collected 10 points (6g, 4a) and 152 penalty minutes (PIM) in 38 games. He tallied 59 points (31g, 28a) and 258 penalty minutes (PIM) in 56 games over two seasons (2002-2004) with the Tier II Junior "A" Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).
Maiser â a 6-foot, 190-pound native of Edina Minnesota â has tallied 13 goals on 104 shots and 69 PIM in 43 games for the Rivermen this season. The 21-year-old left wing, a fifth round (165th overall) draft pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, entered the professional ranks after a 2003-2004 campaign with the Seattle Thunderbirds of Western Hockey League (WHL), posting 27 points (11g, 16a) with 119 PIM in 68 games.
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â The Premier "AA" Hockey League. On Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m., the Rivermen host the archrival Toledo Storm in the first of two in a row between the clubs at Carver Arena. It is Disco Night, and the team will wear special Disco-themed jerseys to be auctioned off after the game to benefit Counseling & Family Services. It is also Circle K Team Photo Night, and the first 4,000 fans will receive a Rivermen Team Photo. Local favorites "Jamsammich" will perform in a post-game concert. On Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m., the Rivermen and the Storm battle again. It is Church Night presented by the Berean Bookstore, and "Jars of Clay" will perform in a post-game Christian concert. It is also Circle K Team Photo Night, and the first 4,000 fans will receive a Rivermen Team Photo. On Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m., Peoria welcomes the Trenton Titans to Carver Arena. It is the fourth and final Peoria Journal Star/Insight Media/InPlay Family Day. Kids 12 & Under receive a $2 Upper Bowl admission, and there are $2.50 Kids Meals.
