Gladiators Playoff March Update
March 1, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Playoff March Notes:
If the playoffs were to begin today, the Gladiators would be the 7th seed in the American Conference. The top 8 teams in the conference qualify for the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Gwinnett, Columbia, Mississippi and Texas have played the fewest games so far this season â 51 â in the American Conference.
The Gladiators (.598) jump ahead of South Carolina (.583) and Greenville (.591) into 5th place in the American Conference when ranked by winning percentage.
Gwinnett has 10 home games remaining. The Gladiators have won 71% of their home games this season. (They have a winning percentage of .711 at home)
9 of the Gladiators remaining 21 games are against teams currently in a playoff position in the American Conference.
Texas is all but mathematically eliminated from the playoff race. The Wildcatters can only lose 7 of their remaining 21 games to finish the season with 58 points - the current point total of 8th place Mississippi. For Texas to make the playoffs, that scenario would also require Mississippi to not pick up another point this year, with Augusta, Louisiana and Pee Dee also going virtually winless throughout the rest of the season.
The Gladiators play two games this weekend, both against Conference opponents. Friday they visit Mississippi at 8:35 p.m. and host Texas on Saturday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.
Friday's game against Mississippi is a four point swing for the winner â 2 points lost by the loser while it is 2 points gained by the winner.
Off until Friday's game, the Gladiators could be looking at a Mississippi team trying to leap-frog over the Gladiators into 7th place in the Conference as Mississippi hosts the 2nd place Florida Everblades Wednesday night. A win by Mississippi on Wednesday would put them one point behind the Gladiators with 60 points on the year.
Important American Conference Games This Week:
Wednesday: Florida at Mississippi Saturday: Greenville at Charlotte Sunday: Augusta at Pee Dee
Friday: Augusta at Columbia South Carolina at Pee Dee
Mississippi at Pensacola
