West Division Battles Highlight Wednesday Schedule

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL lineup on Wednesday has games that include defending Kelly Cup Champion Idaho and defending Brabham Cup Champion San Diego, who are both fighting to get into the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Idaho will host Las Vegas while San Diego travels to Bakersfield. The night also has Wheeling hosting Atlantic City in a North Division match-up and Florida visiting Louisiana.
The Steelheads, who will host Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday as well, have won the last four meetings with the Wranglers to improve to 5-1-0, including 2-0-0 at the Bank of America Centre in Boise. Idaho, which won the ECHL postseason in its inaugural season in 2003-04, began the week eight points behind Fresno, which hosts Bakersfield on Tuesday, for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division of the National Conference. The Steelheads have won nine of their last 11 games to improve to 28-21-3 and 59 points. Idaho had its seven-game winning streak and five-game road winning streak end on Sunday with a 3-2 loss at San Diego.
San Diego is 0-3-0 at Bakersfield, which played at Fresno on Tuesday, and 3-3-2 overall against the Condors, who began the week in third place in the West Division with 70 points and a 31-15-8 record. San Diego, which won the regular season point title in its inaugural season in 2003-04, began the week in fifth place with 62 points, five points behind Fresno and three points ahead of Idaho, and a 28-20-6 record.
Wheeling opened the week with a 31-17-4 record and 66 points which tied it for first place in the North Division with Toledo, one point ahead of Atlantic City, Trenton and Reading, which hosts Johnstown on Tuesday. The Nailers are 1-1-1 at home and 3-1-1 overall against Atlantic City. Atlantic City, which picked up five of a possible six points last weekend, has won the last two games with Wheeling, both on the road, to improve to 2-0-1 at Wheeling and 2-0-3 overall against the Nailers.
Florida, which plays at Mississippi on Tuesday, beat Louisiana 6-5 in a shootout on Sunday after the IceGators scored four goals in the third period to force overtime and the shootout. Florida is 1-0-0 at Louisiana and 3-0-0 overall against the IceGators, who might miss the postseason for the first time in their 10 seasons.
