
Monarchs Assign Milamâ¦Royals Sign Forward Roed

Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that defenseman Troy Milam has been assigned to Reading by the Manchester Monarchs. In addition, the Royals have signed forward Shawn Roed to a contract.
Milam has appeared in 37 games with the Monarchs this season and tallied two goals and 11 points with 30 minutes in penalties. The Lake Orion, Michigan native split time with Manchester and San Antonio of the American Hockey League and Gwinnett of the ECHL last season. In 20 games in 2003-04, the 6-foot, 188-pound defenseman tallied a goal and three points with 10 penalty minutes. He spent the majority of the season with Gwinnett, appearing in 60 contests and scored six goals and 33 points with 44 penalty minutes, plus helped lead the Gladiators to the Central Division title. In ten Kelly Cup playoff games, Milam registered five assists and six penalty minutes. The Ferris State University graduate is expected to be in the line up tonight when the Royals host the Chiefs. He will wear sweater #6.
For the second time in a week, the Royals have signed a player from the Southern Professional Hockey League. Shawn Roed has been added to the Royals roster. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound centerman has appeared in 43 games with Fayetteville and Jacksonville of the SPHL scoring 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points and added 112 penalty minutes. He began the season with the Central Hockey League's Odessa Jackalopes appearing in just two games and chipped in an assist with two penalty minutes. During his three-year professional career Roed has appeared in 155 games and scored 50 goals and 51 assists for 101 points and 252 penalty minutes. Before turning pro, he spent three seasons with the Portland Winter Hawks. Appearing in 146 games, Roed scored 47 goals and 86 assists for 133 points while recording 255 penalty minutes. Roed will wear sweater #18 for the Royals and is expected in the line up tonight.
The Royals host the Johnstown Chiefs tonight in the Sovereign Center at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a free bowling pass courtesy of Bowl-O-Rama in Exeter. Reading battles Dayton on Friday, March 4 at 7:05 p.m. and it's the first-ever 80's Mullet Night in the Sovereign Center. The first 2,000 fans receive a free mullet upon entering the building. The Royals and Wheeling Nailers meet on Saturday, March 5 at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans receive an ECHL All-Star Jeff Miles action shot courtesy of Diamond Credit Union.
