Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves scored seven unanswered runs off the Binghamton bullpen on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium en route to a 9-3 win over the Mets in the middle game of the series.
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the fourth inning against Mets starter Robert Carson. Carson, who was perfect through three, could not keep it going in the visitor half of the fourth. Jamie Johnson led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on an error. Brandon Douglas singled home Johnson for a 1-0 Erie lead. With one out, Rawley Bishop was hit by pitch and Audy Ciriaco singled, loading the bases for Bryan Holaday. Holaday sent a deep fly to center and on the sacrifice, Douglas scored for a 2-0 Erie advantage.
The Mets got on the board in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Jacob Turner. Josh Satin led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on an Eric Campbell one out single. Allen Dykstra walked, loading the bases for Carlos Guzman. Guzman grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Satin, making it a 2-1 game.
Binghamton would then take the lead over the 'Wolves in the fifth. With two outs, Satin singled to left and Brahiam Maldonado slammed his team-leading sixth home run for a 3-2 Mets lead.
The Mets held the lead until the top of the seventh. Holaday led off the inning and slammed a solo home run off of reliever Edgar Ramirez over the wall in left. It was the third blast of the season for Holaday, tying the game at 3-3. With one out, Francisco Martinez reached on a Satin error. With two down, Johnson singled for his third hit of the game and Douglas walked, loading the bases for Ben Guez. Guez, who had been 1-for-7 at the plate in the series prior to the at bat, slammed bases-clearing triple off the wall in center for a 6-3 Erie lead. Guez would later score on a wild pitch for a 7-3 lead.
Erie would continue to hit the Mets bullpen in the top of the eighth inning against Roy Merritt. Martinez doubled with two outs and moved to third on a balk. Justin Henry slapped a single through the left side for an 8-3 Erie lead. Johnson singled for his fourth hit, moving Henry into scoring position. It was the second, four-hit game for Johnson who leads the team with nine multi-hit games. Douglas capped off the night offensively plating Henry on his second hit of the game, a double, for a 9-3 Erie edge.
Turner took the no-decision allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
