Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Altoona's winning streak was halted at two by the Akron Aeros on Wednesday night as a three-run seventh inning led Akron past Altoona, 6-3, at Blair County Ballpark. Kris Watts and Shelby Ford led the Curve with two hits apiece.
The game remained tied at three after an Eric Fryer home run in the fifth until Akron's three-run seventh. Chris Leroux (0-1), who was received from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, was greeted rudely by Aeros first baseman Matt McBride as he homered to start the inning. After Fedroff reached on an error by Miles Durham, Kyle Bellows doubled to move Fedroff to third and place runners at second and third with no one down.
Fedroff came home on a fielder's choice two batters later and Bellows scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Lawson to run the Aeros lead to three. The Aeros bullpen silenced the Curve offense from the sixth inning on as Altoona did not have a man reach past the sixth inning.
The Curve trailed, 3-0, early but erased the deficit with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames. The first run of the game for Altoona came home on a fielding error by Bellows in the third that allowed Watts to score. Durham brought Ford home in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Starter Mike Colla had a tough first but then shut the Aeros offense down over his final four innings of duty. He finished five innings total (a career high) and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits with four strikeouts. Matt McSwain made his second Double-A appearance and worked a scoreless sixth. Anthony Claggett tossed the final two innings and did not permit a run.
The rubber match of the three-game series will take place between Altoona (12-12) and Akron (13-13) at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Blair County Ballpark. It's a School Kids' Day at BCB as well as a Thirsty Thursday. There will be $2 16 oz. drafts at Thursday morning's game as well as $1.50 small sodas. Gates will swing open for the final game of the homestand at 10 a.m.
RHP Aaron Pribanic (2-0, 1.50) will make the start for Altoona while LHP Matt Packer (0-3, 4.79) tosses for the visiting Aeros. Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
