
Seven-Run Third Inning Propels Hens to Win

Allentown, PA - The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 9-5 to head into Father's Day.
Austin Bergner made the start on the mound for manager Anthony Iapoce and Mud Hens. The opposing pitcher was former Toledo Mud Hen *Drew Hutchinson. *
Both teams were held off the board until the bottom of the second inning, where the IronPigs put runners on first and second with two outs. Esteban Quiroz cleared the bases with a three-run home run over the right field wall to jump the IronPigs out in front 3-0.
In the top of the third inning, the Mud Hens were looking for a response after the three-run homerun. The Mud Hens quickly loaded up the bases with no outs. Justyn-Henry Malloy dribbled an infield single to the third basemen to score the Mud Hens' first run. Tyler Nevin followed up with a sacrifice fly to score the second Mud Hens run of the inning. Joe Rizzo took it upon himself to clear the bases, crashing a three-run home run to give the Mud Hens a 5-3 lead. Donny Sands worked a walk, then Andre Lipcius scored him with double to centerfield to grow the mud Hens lead to 6-3. Corey Joyce followed Andre Lipcius with a single that scored Lipcius from second, to cap off a seven-third inning for the Hens.
Austin Bergner's day finished after pitching two innings for the Mud Hens. Coach Iapoce went to Trey Wingenter for the third and Garrett Hill out of the bullpen to pitch in the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the IronPigs put runners on second and third. Jake Cave hit a sacrifice fly out to left field to score a run for the IronPigs and make it 7-4 after four innings.
Garrett Hill pitched three strong innings out of the bullpen for the Mud Hens. Giving up one earned run, allowed three hits, and struck out two batters.
Beau Brieske entered the game in the seventh inning and kept the IronPigs off the scoreboard to preserve the lead.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Mud Hens had runners on first and second with one out. Justyn-Henry Malloy slugged a triple off the wall in center field to add two more Mud Hen runs and take a 9-4 lead with six outs left in the game.
Billy Lescher entered the game in the ninth inning for the Mud Hens. With one out in the inning, the IronPigs were able to load the bases for Rafael Marchan. Marchan grounded into a forceout at second base which allowed a run to score to make it 9-5. Lescher was replaced after the out and Layne Henderson entered the game out of the bullpen for the Mud Hens to record the final out. Henderson was able to get the final out after facing just one batter and throwing three pitches, striking out the final batter to secure the 9-5 victory over the IronPigs.
