Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. -- Once again, the Omaha Storm Chasers scored in the first inning and led all night long and this time, beat the Columbus Clippers 4-1, Omaha's ninth consecutive win.
Starting pitcher Anthony Veneziano picked up his third win in his last four starts and his first quality start at the Triple-A level. Over 6.1 scoreless innings, Veneziano held the Clippers to just three hits and three walks, while striking out a pair in the first inning.
Of now 13 starts between Double-A and Triple-A in 2023, it was his first time this season pitching into the seventh inning, just the second Storm Chasers pitcher to work into the seventh inning this season, doing so on just 87 pitches.
Veneziano got early run support, as Major League rehabber Kyle Isbel connected on a solo home run to center field with one out in the bottom of the first, for an early 1-0 lead, a lead Omaha held the rest of the night.
After Isbel homered, Tyler Gentry doubled and Logan Porter doubled Gentry home for a 2-0 lead.
Already up by two, Angelo Castellano drew a two-out walk in the second, then Brewer Hicklen doubled to put him on third and Isbel doubled them both in for a 4-0 lead.
Omaha lead by four runs into the ninth inning, as Collin Snider got the final two outs of the seventh inning behind Veneziano and Dylan Coleman pitched a scoreless eighth after allowing a leadoff single.
Columbus was able to avoid a shutout, as Will Klein allowed back-to-back singles in the top of the ninth that plated a run, but bounced back with a pair of strikeouts to finish the game off and secure the series win for Omaha and extend the team's winning streak to nine.
The 4-1 win Friday night ties Omaha's nine-game win streak from the 2021 season. Left-hander Drew Parrish takes the mound Saturday as the club looks to tie the Storm Chasers-era record of 10 straight wins, set from June 5 to 16, 2012.
