LOUISVILLE, KY - The Louisville Bats (37-29) cruised past the St. Paul Saints (39-28), winning 12-1 on Saturday night after tying a season-high with eight runs in the fourth inning and getting a strong showing on the mound from Michael Mariot.

Mariot (2-0, 2.08 ERA) twirled a gem, setting a new season-high for a Louisville pitcher with 8.0 innings of work, allowing only five hits and striking out five in just his second start of the season for the Bats.

At the plate, eight different players recorded a hit for Louisville with Matt Reynolds continuing his hot streak, going 2-4 with a home run and a pair of RBIs.

Reynolds got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with a solo home run, his 12th of the season and fourth in the last six games.

The Saints evened the score in the top of the fourth with a solo homer of their own, but the Bats followed up with an offensive explosion, putting up eight runs in the bottom half of the frame after the first seven hitters of the inning scored before recording an out.

After Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Reynolds led off the inning with back-to-back walks, Henry Ramos knocked a single into right field to score Encarnacion-Strand with Reynolds crossing the plate close behind off a St. Paul throwing error.

Michael Siani then drew a walk and recorded his team-leading 12th stolen base of the season to induce a throwing error from the Saints' catcher that plated Ramos. Chuckie Robinson reached safely on a single later in the at-bat before Nick Martini followed suit with an RBI single into right to score Siani.

With two on and still nobody out, Jose Barrero sent a three-run home run over the center field wall to highlight the shortstop's first appearance this season with the Bats after being assigned to Louisville from the Reds on Friday.

Encarnacion-Strand then closed out the eight-run inning with a double down the left field line before scoring on the third error of the inning for the Saints, giving Louisville a 9-1 lead.

Louisville added on another run in the sixth, stringing together three straight two-out singles with Reynolds recording his second RBI of the game to bring Wil Myers home.

Martini continued his stellar night at the plate in the seventh inning, hammering a ball deep into right for his fourth home run of the season and his third hit of the game to give the Bats an 11-1 lead. Martini finished the night a double away from completing the cycle.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Siani became the fifth Louisville player on the evening with an RBI, bringing Myers in on an RBI single.

Pedro Garcia (2-1, 7.62 ERA) came on in relief to pitch the ninth, striking out two on his way to a scoreless inning to preserve the 12-1 victory for Louisville.

The Bats will look to split the series tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch of the finale against the Saints set for 1:05 p.m. ET. RHP Kevin Herget (0-1, 7.36 ERA) will make his second start of the series for Louisville when he faces off against Aaron Sanchez (3-4, 4.17 ERA) who draws the start for the Saints.
