Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Senators pounded out a season-high 19 hits but still fell to the Akron Aeros by a score of 7-6. The Senators fell to 2-15 on the season while Akron improved to 15-4 with the win. The Senators led the game 5-3 into the late innings, but couldn't hold the lead. Offensively they received big nights from Leonard Davis, Marvin Lowrance, and Ofilio Castro who all had three hits. Michael Daniel, Bill Rhinehart, Edgardo Baez and Jhonatan Solano chipped in with two hits each.
Ross Detwiler started for the Senators and pitched five innings, allowing three runs but just earned. The Sens led the game 5-3 when he left.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Harrisburg tied the game in the third inning on a two-run home run by Davis. They tied the game in the fourth 3-3 on a sacrifice fly by Castro. And then in the fifth took the lead on a solo home run by Matt Whitney and an rbi single by Castro, giving the Sens a 5-3 lead. But they had the bases loaded with one out and failed to tack on to the lead. They again loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but came up empty. Akron then scored three times in the seventh to claim a 6-5 lead, then tacked on a run in the eighth to take a 7-5 lead into the ninth inning.
The Senators trimmed the lead to a run on a run scoring single off the bat of Solano, but Michael Martinez flied out to left field to end the game. Yunior Novoa took the loss, allowing three runs in 1.2 innings of work. The final game of the road trip and series is Thursday morning at 10:35am with LH Cory VanAllen on the mound for the Senators.
