Altoona Curve News Release

(Reading, PA) Vance Worley and two relievers combined to blank the Altoona Curve on three hits as the Reading Phillies shutout the Curve 2-0 in the middle game of the three game series from First Energy Stadium.

Worley (2-0) allowed three hits over seven innings of work to pick up the win. At one point, he had retired fifteen batters in a row before giving up a lead-off single to Jason Delaney in the top of the seventh inning. Sergio Escalona pitched a perfect ninth inning to nail down his sixth save of the season.

Jared Hughes suffered the tough loss for the Curve, dropping his record to 0-3 on the season. Hughes allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts over five innings of work.

Brian Stavisky gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two out, run scoring single to left. Reading made it 2-0 in the third inning when Quinton Berry stole third and scored on a throwing error by Curve catcher Hector Gimenez.

The Phillies will look for the sweep of the series on Thursday night at 6:35. Right-hander Mike Crotta (1-0 2.12) gets the call for the Curve. Reading will counter with righty Mike Stutes (3-0 1.59).
