Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves won a nailbiter on Tuesday night at People's Natural Gas Field, taking down the Altoona Curve 3-2.
Erie jumped ahead in the first inning against Curve starter Jhonathan Ramos. With two outs, Ramon Cabrera singled and moved to second on an error. Steven Moya singled home Cabrera for a 1-0 lead, picking up his 84th RBI.
In the fifth, the SeaWolves added to the lead. Dean Green led off and blasted his fifth home run of the season to right for a 2-0 lead. Green, who hadn't homered since May 29, has gone yard in consecutive games. Corey Jones followed with a hit but was erased at second when Dixon Machado hit into a fielder's choice. Machado stole second, moved to third on an error and scored on a Devon Travis base hit for a 3-0 lead.
Altoona struck back in the sixth against Erie starter Josh Turley. Drew Maggi and Josh Bell each singled putting two on for Stetson Allie. Allie singled home Maggi making it 3-1. Turley was lifted in favor of Guido Knudson who induced a fly out off the bat of Elias Diaz for the first out. Willy Garcia singled home Bell making it a one-run game at 3-2. Keon Broxton walked, loading the bases. Knudson struck out Jarek Cunningham and Gift Ngoepe ending the Curve threat
Altoona would threaten in the last three innings, including leadoff triples in the seventh off of Knudson and in the eighth off of Bryan Augenstein. Both were able to work out of the jam.
In the ninth, Altoona put a pair on base against Angel Nesbitt. Nesbitt got Diaz to fly out to Moya, ending the game.
Turley (2-1) earned the win allowing two runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work.
