Loewen pitches six shutout innings in 2-1 loss to Sea Dogs

The Fightin Phils (45-64) looked as if they would hold on to their early 1-0 lead to Portland (71-41) until two runs scored in the bottom of the 8th inning as Reading would fall 2-1 in the series finale. The Fightin Phils were one-hit for the first time since August 4, 2009 at Trenton.

Kelly Dugan hit a RBI single off Brian Johnson that scored Albert Cartwright in the top of the 1st inning to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. The hit by Dugan would be the only hit for the Fightin Phils. Heiker Meneses hit a two-run double to score Stefan Welch and Jonathan Roof off Colton Murray in the bottom of the 8th inning to take a 2-1 lead. A run was each charged to Seth Rosin and Austin Wright.

Adam Loewen pitched six shutout innings as he gave up five hits and five walks with seven strikeouts. Loewen threw 119 pitches - his largest amount of the season. Seth Rosin pitched 1 1/3 innings in which he allowed the tying run. Austin Wright pitched a 1/3 of an inning and allowed the winning run. Colton Murray gave up one hit in a 1/3 of an inning.

The Fightin Phils head to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire to take on the Fisher Cats beginning tomorrow night at 7:05 pm for a five-game series. Hoby Milner (6-5, 4.60 ERA) makes the start for Reading.
