New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY--- Jon Berti had four hits and Casey Lawrence picked up his eighth win as the Fisher Cats completed a successful roadtrip with a 5-2 win over Binghamton on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Lawrence, a 26-year old RHP, improved to 8-5, allowing two runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out two. Mickey Storey pitched the final two innings without allowing a run for his second save. New Hampshire went 4-2 on the roadtrip to Harrisburg and Binghamton, and is two outs away from another win with a suspended game from Sunday still to be completed.
The Fisher Cats (52-58) jumped on Binghamton starter Greg Peavey (LP: 8-2) in the top of the first, scoring four runs on five hits. Berti (4-for-5, 2 2B) led off with a single and Matt Newman homered. Andy Burns doubled and scored on a double by Derrick Chung. K. C. Hobson followed with an RBI single for a 4-0 lead. That would be all the offense New Hampshire would need.
Binghamton (64-46) scored its first run in the bottom of the second inning. T. J. Rivera led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jayce Boyd to trim New Hampshire's lead to 4-1.
The Mets closed to within 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brian Burgamy walked, stole second and scored on a double by Darrell Ceciliani.
The Fisher Cats scored in the top of the seventh inning. Andy Fermin walked, moved to second on a single by Berti. He took third on a wild pitch and when the throw to third went into the outfield, Fermin scored on the error to put New Hampshire up 5-2.
New Hampshire put the game away with two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Berti's fourth hit of the game, a double, started the frame. He scored when Andy Burns reached on an error. Burns advanced to second, scoring on a single by Cory Aldridge.
The Fisher Cats return home tomorrow (Thursday) to start an epic four-day, five-game homestand with the Reading Fightin Phils. On Thursday, there will be an Atlas Fireworks Show after the game and a visit by the Red Sox World Series Trophies from 2004, 2007, and 2013. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com, stopping by the Fisher Cats ticket office, or by calling (603) 641-2005.
