Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Bowie, MD)- Road series against the Western Division haven't exactly treated the Sea Dogs kindly this season. After taking two of three in Erie, Portland lost three straight series on the road against the opposite division. However, that number will not hit four, as the Sea Dogs won their second consecutive game in Bowie, locking up a series victory with an 8-6 win on Wednesday night.
For the second straight night, the Sea Dogs got the offense started with a first inning homer. On Tuesday night, Nate Spears cracked a two-run shot to put the visitors on top. With one man on and two out on Wednesday night, it was Luis Exposito's turn, as he clobbered his ninth home run of the season to left field.
The Baysox had a quick answer, needing just two batters to tie the score. Greg Miclat led off the bottom of the first with a double, and was driven home when Ryan Adams sent a two-run blast over the right field wall.
The game stayed tied until the third, when Portland regained the lead. Che-Hsuan Lin led off with a double, stole third base, and scored on a groundout by Ray Chang. Luis Exposito then took a two-out walk, setting the table for Anthony Rizzo, who smacked his 15th home run in Double-A, and his 20th at two levels this season.
Joe Mahoney's two-run single in the fifth brought Bowie within a run at 5-4, but the Sea Dogs got those runs right back in their half of the sixth. With one out, Jorge Padron singled, and was driven in on an RBI triple by Ryan Khoury. Chih-Hsien Chiang followed with an RBI double that nearly became a triple, but the Portland right fielder overslid the third base bag.
Ryne Reynoso (1-0) picked up his first win in a Portland uniform, pitching three innings, allowing two runs, two hits, and two walks, while striking out one. Reynoso's lone blemish came in the seventh on a two-run homer by Joel Guzman. Pedro Viola (3-2) was the losing pitcher, going five innings, allowing five runs, six hits, and two walks, while striking out three. Bryce Cox got the save (12), tossing one and one-third scoreless frames to preserve the 8-6 win.
The Sea Dogs and Baysox will wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05. Blake Maxwell (3-0, 2.57) will pitch for Portland, while Bowie has yet to name a starter.
