RHP Anthony Reyes Joins Aeros Roster
August 11, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Aeros made a few roster moves today as RHP Anthony Reyes was received on a Major League rehab assignment, LHP T.J. McFarland was transferred to Class A Kinston and RHP Chen-Chang Lee was activated from the disabled list.
Reyes begins a new rehab assignment when he starts tonight at 7:05 p.m. in Akron after a 10-day break following his last start on Sunday, August 1st against Reading. He is still recovering from June 2009 Tommy John reconstructive right elbow surgery and in his four rehab outings combined between the rookie-level Arizona League and the Eastern League, has an 0-2 record with a 11.00 ERA. He last pitched in Cleveland on May 22nd, 2009 against the Cincinnati Reds and in his MLB career, has 13-26 record with a 5.12 ERA in 67 games (52 starts). The Indians acquired Reyes from the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008 and the 28-year-old was the winning pitcher in Game 1 of the 2006 World Series.
McFarland returns to the K-Tribe today and made one start for the Aeros this past road trip. The 21-year-old out of Amos Alonzo Stagg High School (IL) permitted six runs (five earned) on nine hits in four innings Friday night in New Britain for an 11.25 ERA, but did not take a decision. It was his first career appearance in Double-A and he was Kinston's lone mid-season All-Star this year, leading the Class A Carolina League with 10 wins. He posted a 2.81 ERA 20 games (15 starts), ranking second on that team with 109.0 innings pitched and third with 74 strikeouts. Last season, he was 9-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 25 games (23 starts) for Class A Lake County and Cleveland selected McFarland in the fourth round of the June 2007 Draft.
Lee missed the past eight Akron games (2-6 record) with an oblique strain injury that placed him on the disabled list retroactive to August 3rd. The consistent reliever last pitched Sunday, August 1st at Canal Park and the Taiwan native is 5-3 with a 3.83 ERA in a team-leading 35 appearances this season. The 23-year-old has not allowed an earned run in 11 straight games since an outing on June 25th, striking out 22 in this stretch against just five walks and six hits in 16.1 innings pitched. He has spent the entirety of 2010 in Double-A after a 4-6 record and a 3.35 ERA in 45 games with Class A Kinston last season and joined the Indians organization as a non-drafted free agent in September 2008.
The Aeros roster now stands at the full 24 men + 1 on rehab assignment. Reyes will wear #29 and start tonight at 7:05 p.m. for "Paws and Pitches" Pet Night at Canal Park against the Reading Phillies.
