. Odd Opener. The Reading Phillies blanked the Aeros 11-0 Tuesday night in the beginning of a three-game series at Canal Park, marking the largest Akron defeat this season. Reading torched new starter Corey Kluber, scoring four times in the third inning on five hits followed by two more runs in the fourth. Left-handed reliever Nick Hagadone entered in the fifth inning but an RBI double from Keoni De Renne extended the lead to 7-0. Steven Wright then permitted the final four runs in the seventh, as the Aeros offense collected just five hits total on the night. Reading starter Yohan Flande (8-7) pitched seven shutout innings with just three hits and two walks allowed with four strikeouts while Kluber fell to 0-2 in his first two Eastern League starts.
. Mad Hatter. Kluber permitted six runs on 11 hits Tuesday, the most allowed by an Akron pitcher this season, in his first outing at Canal Park. He struck out five with one walk, but he has a 10.13 ERA after just 8.0 innings in the Cleveland organization. A former Stetson University Hatter, Kluber led the Double-A Texas League with 136 strikeouts earlier this year. The Indians acquired him in a three-team trade from San Diego on July 31st that sent RHP Jake Westbrook to the St. Louis Cardinals.
. Delaware Delight. Akron reliever Rob Bryson delivered a shutout ninth Tuesday against the R-Phils, avoiding damage despite a walk and a double. The 22-year-old Newark, DE native has calmed down since a rocky debut at Canal Park, allowing just one earned run in his last five outings. He now has 67 strikeouts combined this season in 27 games spanning 39.1 innings pitched.
. Solid Second. One batter who has continued to shine for the Aeros despite a rough month of August has been second baseman Jason Kipnis. He finished 1-for-4 at the plate Tuesday night and he originally earned the promotion from Class A Kinston on June 10th. Since that day, he has recorded a hit in 42 of his 51 Double-A games and his .314 combined batting average ranks second in the Cleveland system. The 23-year-old was selected in the second round of the June 2009 Draft out of Arizona State.
. August Rush. The Aeros made three more roster moves today highlighted by the start of a new Major League rehab assignment from Cleveland for RHP Anthony Reyes. The 28-year-old starter last pitched on Sunday, August 1st at Canal Park before being recalled from his rehab Thursday and will start on for the team tonight against Reading. Additionally, RHP Chen-Chang Lee returned from an eight-game sting on the disabled list with an oblique strain and to make room on the 24-man Eastern League roster, Akron transferred LHP T.J. McFarland to Class A Kinston after his lone Double-A start last Friday.
. Akron North. LHP David Huff returned to the Indians 25-man roster today, adding to a growing number of former Aeros on the team. In total, 22 players are on Cleveland's 40-man roster that participated in a game for Akron at Canal Park.
