NEWS AND NOTES

ALMOST HOME: The Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) conclude their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon at Arm & Hammer Park. Portland has dropped consecutive one-run games in this series and play Trenton for the final time this season. RHP Mike McCarthy makes his 23rd appearance, but his third straight start. Today ends a stretch of 42 straight games for the 'Dogs against the Eastern Division (14-27).

HE WAS QUALITY AGAIN: RHP Luis Diaz suffered his ninth loss of the season on Tuesday night, but notched his sixth straight quality start. Diaz allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. RHP Simon Mercedes worked two scoreless innings of relief on one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. Trenton's Andury Acevedo earned the win last night, working four hitless innings.
