Curve Blank Squirrels Again to Finish Series Sweep

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve shut out the Richmond Flying Squirrels for the second straight day, finishing a three-game sweep with a 1-0 win on Wednesday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The Curve (57-48) pitched their 10th shutout win of the season, the fourth against the Flying Squirrels (53-50) this season and fourth this month.

Zack Dodson (Win, 5-8) allowed just two hits over seven scoreless innings. Curve pitching has now combined for 20.1 consecutive scoreless innings overall.

The game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when JaCoby Jones broke the stalemate with an RBI single.

John Kuchno (Hold, 5) and Brett McKinney (Save, 1) each pitched one scoreless inning out of the pen to finish the shutout.

Richmond starter Matt Gage (Loss, 2-1) was charged with the one run over his 6.1 innings.

In the series against Richmond, Curve starting pitchers Chad Kuhl, Steven Brault and Dodson combined for 19 scoreless innings.

Played in one hour and 54 minutes, Wednesday's game was tied for the shortest in the history of Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The Altoona Curve meet the Akron RubberDucks for the first game of the four-game series at 7 p.m on Thursday. Right-hander Jason Creasy (8-4, 4.43) will be on the mound for the Curve. Righty Adam Plutko (5-4, 2.88) takes the mound for the RubberDucks.

Pro Football Hall of Framer, Heisman Trophy Winner and Super Bowl Champion Tony Dorsett is making an appearance at Peoples Natural Gas Field, presented by Peoples Natural Gas.

Thursday night is Thirsty Thursday, featuring 16 oz. Miller Lite on special and regular sodas for $2. It is also College Night, and students can bring their college ID to the stadium for $5 grandstand tickets.
