Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The inaugural Little League Hit, Run, and Throw Competition final, sponsored by Mercy Hospital and Dunkin Donuts, was held at Hadlock Field on Tuesday, June 7th prior to the Sea Dogs game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The Sea Dogs crowned champions in each of the three age groups.
Bode Meader from Gorham Little League took home the title in the 7-8 year-old age group. In the 9-10 year-old group, William Snyder from Portland Little League was the top finisher. Zach LaComb from Windham Little League took home top honors in the 11-12 year-old category.
During April and May, the Sea Dogs, Mercy Hospital, and Dunkin Donuts teamed up and traveled to local Little Leagues in hopes of finding the Hit, Run, and Throw champion. Falmouth, Gorham, Portland, Standish, Westbrook, Windham, and Yarmouth Little Leagues were all broken into three age groups (7-8, 9-10, and 11-12) for the competition. After tallying all of the Little Leaguer's scores, the top two from each age group were selected to represent their respective Little League at the Finals at Hadlock Field.
The 42 finalists began the competition by hitting off of a tee three times, and for every 25 feet the ball rolled, they were awarded 10 points. The running was scored based on the fastest time being awarded 25 points, next fastest time was awarded 24 points, etc. The throwing was based off of three throws from the outfield grass behind second base. The Little Leaguers threw at a net located at home plate, and each time a throw hit the net, they were awarded 10 points.
Each winner was awarded a Sea Dogs Replica Jersey and two tickets to a Boston Red Sox game this season.
Tickets are available to all remaining 2011 Portland Sea Dogs' home games. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or order online at www.seadogs.com.
