B-Mets Rattled by Thunder in Rocky Fourth, 7-3

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Thunder scored four runs in the fourth on three walks, an error, and just two singles en route to a 7-3 win over the Binghamton Mets tonight at Waterfront Park.

Owning a 3-1 lead, Trenton first baseman Addison Maruszak led off the decisive inning by working out a walk against B-Mets starter Brad Holt. Following Ray Kruml's single, Corban Joseph sent a chopper to third. Jon Malo charged and fielded cleanly, but his throw to first sailed over Allan Dykstra's head and rolled down the right field line. Maruszak came home on the misplay.

Bradley Suttle walked to load the bases, spelling the end of Holt's day. Brandon Sage took over and handed out a walk, gave up a single, and induced a ground out to allow all three inherited runners to score.

The game had started off on the right note for Binghamton. Shortstop Jordany Valdespin led off with a solo home run off Trenton starter Craig Heyer. It was the second time this season Valdespin has led off the first inning with a dinger.

Holt could not preserve the early lead for long, allowing back-to-back hits to start the first. Corban Joseph's double brought home Ray Kruml to tie it up.

Trenton took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the third. Holt gave out a pair of free passes and uncorked two wild pitches to give Trenton a 3-1 advantage.

Although they scored just three runs, the Binghamton offense came to play. The B-Mets collected 11 hits, led by Jordany Valdespin's four hit night. He finished a triple shy of the cycle.

Binghamton trimmed the deficit to four with a run on Reese Havens' sac fly in the fifth and Brahiam Maldonado's homer in the sixth. Maldonado's drive snapped a hit-less stretch of 14 at-bats.

After allowing a two-out single to Eric Campbell in the sixth, Heyer handed things off to the bullpen. Pat Venditte, Grant Duff, and Fernando Martinez kept the B-Mets off the board the rest of the way, making a winner of Heyer for the sixth time this season.

The B-Mets (19-40) and Thunder continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05pm. RHP Collin McHugh (0-1, 4.35) will take the mound against LHP Manny Banuelos (2-0, 2.84). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
