Alvarez Wins First Home Start

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


(Manchester, NH)- Henderson Alvarez allowed two runs in 6.2 innings in his first start at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium and Mike McDade drove in two runs as the Fisher Cats turned back Richmond 6-2 before 6,945 on Friday night.

The Fisher Cats (37-23) jumped on Richmond starter Justin Fitzgerald in the bottom of the first inning. Darin Mastroianni (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 SB) singled and moved to third on a single by Anthony Gose. Mastroianni scored on a groundout by Mike McDade and Gose scored to make it 2-0 on a double by Moises Sierra (2-for-2).

The first four New Hampshire hitters reached on hits to start the bottom of the fourth inning, chasing Fitzgerald (4-4). Sierra singled and Travis d'Arnaud doubled him in to make it 3-0. Ricardo Nanita (2-for-4, RBI) singled d'Arnaud in and after Mark Sobolewski singled to extend his hit streak to a season-high 15 games, John Tolisano hit a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead.

Richmond picked up single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings on solo home runs by Charlie Culberson and Roger Kieschnick off Alvarez.

The Fisher Cats scored the game's final run in the top of the seventh as Mastroianni singled, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by McDade.

Alvarez (3-1), who had made four road starts prior to Friday night, allowed four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out six. Chad Beck worked 1.1 innings in his first relief outing and Bobby Korecky worked a scoreless ninth.
