Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Reading, PA) -- B.J. Rosenberg was one of the go-to relievers in the Reading Phillies bullpen. After tonight's outing, he may become one of Reading's go-to starting pitchers. Rosenberg (2-1, 2.17) tossed seven shutout innings, Cody Overbeck and Carlos Rivero hit back-to home runs during a four-run sixth inning, and the R-Phils took the opening game of their three-game series against Altoona with a 4-0 win on Friday at America's Classic Ballpark.

A native of Virginia, Rosenberg, 25, began the year in the R-Phils bullpen and compiled a 0-0 mark with a 1.83 ERA over 11 games. The 6'2" righty, who battled injuries in 2010, was moved to the rotation on May 20, and has thrived in his new role.

After making four starts and posting a 1-1 mark with a 3.32 ERA, Rosenberg would take the mound on Friday for Reading, and turn in his best performance yet. The University of Louisville product allowed just three hits and three walks, while tossing 97 pitches. He fanned four batters and helped lead Reading to their fourth win over their last five games.

Reading reliever Phillippe Aumont allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings to close-out the game. He struck-out three batters and walked just one.

Altoona starter Kyle McPherson (0-1, 4.76), who made his Double-A debut, was solid over his first five innings. The Alabama native was rolling along nicely, until the sixth frame. With two outs in the sixth, McPherson allowed a two-run home run to Overbeck, which put the R-Phils on the board 2-0. The home run was Overbeck's league-leading 18th of the season, and he now has 46 RBIs on the year (an Eastern League-high).

The next batter was Carlos Rivero, who ripped the 1-0 offering from McPherson over the left field wall to make it a 3-0 R-Phils lead. Reading would tack on one more run in the inning, and do so off new pitcher Diego Moreno. Moreno, who came on in relief of McPherson, uncorked a wild pitch, which scored Derrick Mitchell from third base.

RHP J.C. Ramirez (5-4, 3.57) gets the nod for Reading in game two on Saturday. Ramirez, 22, is looking to get back to the way he was in April, when he went 4-0 with a 1.03 ERA. The Curve will send RHP Aaron Pribanic (5-3, 2.81) to the hill.

Coverage begins at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV and readingphillies.com. R-Phils play-by-play broadcaster Brian Seltzer will have the call for all of the action. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
