Heyer, Big Inning Pace Thunder to Win

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (37-24) used a four-run fourth inning and the right arm of Craig Heyer to beat the Binghamton Mets (19-40) 7-3 on Friday night in front of 7,251 at Waterfront Park. Taking advantage of seven walks and two B-Mets' errors that led to runs, the Thunder have won 23 of 31 home games in 2011. Thunder starter Craig Heyer limited the B-Mets to just three runs in five and two-thirds innings to grab his team-leading sixth win of the year.

The Thunder took their first lead of the ballgame in the third inning when the team brought in a pair of runs. After two walks, DeAngelo Mack grounded a ball to first that was booted by Binghamton first baseman Allan Dyskstra, and a run scored to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. Jose Gil scored one batter later on a wild pitch by B-Mets' starter Brad Holt, extending Trenton's lead to 3-1.

Trenton also took advantage of Binghamton miscues in the fourth when ten men came to the plate and four runs scored. Addison Maruszak scored on a throwing error by B-Mets' third baseman Jonathan Malo, Cody Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk, Gil singled a run home and Mack drove in a run with an RBI-groundout to give the Thunder a 7-1 lead.

The Thunder continue their six-game homestand with game two of a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets Saturday at 7:05 PM from Waterfront Park. The Thunder will send Yankees top left-handed pitching prospect Manny Banuelos (2-0, 2.84) to the mound, while the B-Mets will counter with RHP Collin McHugh (0-1, 4.35). Before the game Saturday, the Thunder will hold the first Trenton Thunder Charities Paws for a Cause Dog Walk at Waterfront Park. Registration begins at 9:00 AM with the walk beginning at 10:00 AM.
