Rock Cats Drop 'Wolves 4-3

The SeaWolves continued their six-game road trip on Friday night at New Britain Stadium and came out on the short end as the Rock Cats took down the 'Wolves 4-3 in the series opener.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead against Rock Cats starter Bobby Lannigan in the top of the second inning. Michael Rockett singled to left with one out and he came home to score on a John Murrian triple off the right field wall for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Audy Ciriaco led off with an opposite-field double and he advanced to third on a Michael Bertram groundout. Rockett then brought Ciriaco home on a ground ball to short when Ciriaco slid through the legs of the catcher Jair Fernandez for a 2-0 Erie edge.

The Rock Cats struck back in the fourth inning against Erie starter Brooks Brown. With one out, Evan Bigley walked, Yangervis Solarte singled and Fernandez walked loading the bases for Mark Dolenc. Dolenc singled home Bigley making it a one-run game at 2-1. Deibinson Romero reached on a fielder's choice, plating Solarte, tying the game at 2-2. Consecutive singles from Chris Cates and Chris Herrmann brought home two more runs, giving the 'Cats a 4-2 lead.

Erie got one back in the eighth inning. Brnadon Douglas led off and reached on an error and moved into scoring position on a Justin Henry bunt single. Douglas came home to score on a Ciriaco base hit to center making it a 4-3 game.

The 'Wolves would get no closer, falling by a final of 4-3.

The loss drops the SeaWolves to 1-3 on the current road trip and they now dropped five of the last six games.

Brown (0-1) allowed four runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout in 3.2 innings of work.

The SeaWolves and Rock Cats meet in the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday night at New Britain Stadium...6:35 First Pitch. Lefty Jay Voss (1-2, 5.17 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Brett Jacobson (2-0, 2.15 ERA).
