Schwindel Rakes as Toledo Falls to Buffalo

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens were defeated 7-2 by the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.

The Mud Hens (51-64) fell despite a three-hit game from Frank Schwindel as the Bisons (59-56) used two big innings to hold on for the win.

Toledo got on the board first in the second inning as Schwindel drove in Ronny Rodriguez from second with an RBI single off the wall in left field.

RHP Zac Reininger got the start for the Mud Hens in a bullpen game. The start was the first of his Triple-A career, going three shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out three.

Buffalo found the scoreboard in the fifth inning as Socrates Brito began a two-out rally plating Rowdy Tellez. Andy Burns then drilled a two-run homerun to put the Bisons up two. Michael De La Cruz then made it back-to-back with a solo shot to give the visitors a 4-1 advantage.

The Bisons opened the sixth inning with three consecutive hits, the third being a blast over the wall in center field as Buffalo took a 7-1 lead.

Toledo countered in the bottom half of the inning as Rodriguez doubled to score Christin Stewart brining the Mud Hens within five.

Two big offensive innings proved to be the difference as Toledo fell 7-2.

What's Next:

The Toledo Mud Hens are back in action on Thursday evening against the Buffalo Bisons with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.

Hens Notes:

? Zac Reininger recorded his fourth consecutive appearance without allowing a run. The three-inning shutout performance marked the second time in 2019 that Reininger went three innings.
