Santana, Bats Drop 11 Inning Thriller 7-6 to Clippers on Thursday Night

LOUISVILLE, KY. - Cristian Santana launched two home runs as the Bats (53-79) rallied late but couldn't overcome the Clippers (76-54), dropping an eleven-inning thriller 7-6 on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bats struck quickly, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Batting second, Cristian Santana stepped to the plate and smacked a home run to straight away center field to put Louisville ahead 1-0.

Columbus was scoreless through the first two innings but answered in the top of the third, scoring two runs on two solo homers to take a 2-1 lead.

Louisville didn't waste any time, evening the score in the home half of the inning. Leonardo Rivas got on base with a two-out, line drive single and then stole second to move himself in to scoring position. Santana followed with another line drive single to score Rivas from second and tie the game 2-2.

The Clippers added another run in the fifth inning, scoring a run on an RBI single to take back a one run lead at 3-2.

In the bottom of the inning, Isiah Gilliam launched the second Bats homer of the night, his fifth of the season, to tie the game once again at 3-3.

Indianapolis broke the stalemate in the eighth, striking for three runs on three hits to take a 6-3 lead.

Santana led off the Bats half of the eighth and launched his second home run of the night, another solo shot to left field to cut into the deficit and get Louisville back within two at 6-4.

Ryan Nutof (0-0, 0.00) came on to pitch for the Bats in the ninth and shut down the Clippers, sitting them down in order. Michael De Leon led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and scored on a single by Michael Papierski in the next at-bat. Gilliam followed with a single of his own to move the pinch running Mark Kolozsvary to third. Rivas singled through the left side of the infield, the fourth consecutive hit to start the frame, to score Kolozsvary and tie the game 6-6 and force extra innings.

Columbus took advantage of the placed runner in the 11th, scoring the go-ahead run on an RBI double for a 7-6 lead.

The Bats were able to move their placed runner to third but couldn't bring him home as they dropped game three in 7-6 in extras.

Santana finished the night 3-for-6 at the plate with the two homers, three runs batted in, and two runs scored. Gilliam and Rivas also produced multi-hit nights, knocking two hits each.

Louisville and Columbus continue this six-game series tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm E.T. Right hander Deck McGuire (3-4, 6.90) will get the ball for the Bats while lefty Tanner Tully (8-3, 4.07) gets the nod for the Clippers.
