
Chasers Earn Doubleheader Split with the Indians

PAPILLION, Neb. - After winning the opener in extra-innings, the Storm Chasers earned a doubleheader split with the Indians, taking game one 5-4 in nine innings and dropping game two 4-3 on Wednesday evening from Werner Park. Omaha (63-68) leads the series 2-1 and the season series with Indianapolis (68-62) is tied 7-7.
GAME ONE
Indianapolis got on the scoreboard first, putting up two runs in the opening frame on a Bligh Madris two-run home run.
Omaha responded in the second inning when first baseman Logan Porter hit a double to score right fielder Brewer Hicklen. Catcher Jakson Reetz hit his second home run with the Storm Chasers to give the Omaha a 3-2 lead.
The Indians tied the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Mason Martin.
The game was scheduled to be a seven-inning game, but the score was tied after seven innings, taking it to extra-innings.
Drew Maggi started the eighth on second base for Indianapolis, scoring on a Jared Oliva single to give the Indians the lead.
Second baseman Iván Castillo was pushed across the dish in the bottom of the inning on a single from third baseman Nick Loftin.
Right-hander Wyatt Mills kept Indianapolis off the scoreboard with a scoreless ninth inning.
Reetz hit a sacrifice fly to score Hicklen from third in the bottom of the inning, giving Omaha the walk-off 5-4 win in game one.
GAME TWO
Indianapolis capitalized on a pair of Storm Chasers errors in the first to open an early lead in game two. Ji-hwan Baw used another Omaha error in the second inning to put the Indians ahead 2-0.
Omaha got on the board with when second baseman Gabriel Cancel scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.
With one out in the fifth, catcher José Briceño hit his fourth home run of the season to knot the score at 2-2.
The Indians put two more runs on the board in the sixth, with Oliva capping the inning on an RBI double.
Designated hitter Freddy Fermin hit another home run in the sixth for Omaha to cut the deficit to one run heading into the final inning.
Right-hander Ronald Bolaños allowed a couple of hits in the top of the seventh but got out of the inning without allowing a run.
Omaha couldn't put any runs on the board in the final frame, dropping game two 4-3.
The Storm Chasers and Indians are set to square off on Thursday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Coverage is set to start at 6:15 p.m. on the on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Omaha is scheduled to have left-hander Austin Cox (6-7, 4.49) on the mound and Indianapolis looks to start Luis Ortiz.
