Hickory Crawdads News Release
SAVANNAH, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats topped the Hickory Crawdads, 6-1, before 1,780 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium in Savannah on Monday night.
The Sand Gnats (13-17) jumped in front with three runs in both the second and third innings, taking an early 6-0 lead. The Sand Gnats took advantage of a combined seven walks in those two frames to pace the attack, capped by a two-run single in the third by 2B Luis Nieves before RHP Jorge Marban, who relieved RHP Carlos Melo (L, 2-3), was able to work out of the inning.
Savannah RHP Gonzalez Germen (W, 2-1) kept the 'Dads (19-11) off the scoreboard for the majority of the game with seven scoreless innings. Hickory did get on the board against reliever LHP Hamilton Bennett in the top of the ninth. CF Jake Skole started the inning with a walk and moved from first to third on a single by C Tomas Telis. Skole then came home on a sacrifice fly by 1B Andrew Clark, but Bennett got out of the rest of the inning unscathed, closing the 6-1 win for Savannah.
