Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Monday that right-handed pitchers Kelvin Perez and Jose Ramirez have been transferred to the Charleston RiverDogs from the Tampa Yankees. Right-handed pitchers Richard Martinez and Wilton Rodriguez, meanwhile, have been transferred from Charleston to the Staten Island Yankees.
Perez spent the entire 2010 season with the RiverDogs, compiling a 5-5 record and a 3.18 ERA in 30 games (13 starts). A Yankees free agent signee in March 2005, Perez struggled in eight relief appearances this season in the Florida State League, yielding 20 hits and ten earned runs over 14.0 innings pitched.
Ramirez also performed well for the RiverDogs in 2010, racking up a 6-5 mark with a 3.60 ERA in 21 starts. The 2010 MLB.com Short-Season Pitcher of the Year made five starts with High-A Tampa before being transferred to Charleston, going 0-5 with a 8.14 ERA in six starts.
Martinez had made ten appearances with Charleston through the first month of the campaign, pitching to an 11.66 ERA and a 0-1 record in 14.2 innings pitched. The 22-year old Venezuelan right-hander was terrific with Staten Island a year ago, logging 34 strikeouts in 32 innings while going 4-1.
Rodriguez showcased his knack for swing-and-miss stuff over nine relief outings with the RiverDogs, fanning 22 batters in 16.2 frames of work. The 20-year old Dominican righty split last season between the GCL, NYPL, and SAL, posting a 1-7 record with a 4.56 ERA.
The RiverDogs square off against the West Virginia Power in a four-game series extending through Thursday. For more information on tickets visit www.riverdogs.com or call the RiverDogs' box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647).
