Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Professional baseball players face challenges every day. Whether it's hitting a 95-mile-per-hour fastball, adjusting to the breaking ball, or working out of a bases-loaded jam, the obstacles are just part of the trade. Others, like the patients at the MUSC Children's Hospital, face more serious hardships as they battle illness at a young age.
On May 10 and May 17, Charleston RiverDogs players will take time out of their day to hang out and play with the kids. Shane Greene, Slade Heathcott, J.R. Murphy, and Kramer Sneed make the first trip to one of the nation's leading children's hospitals for an afternoon of games in the state-of-the-art atrium.
"Community outreach is an essential component of our "Be Your Own Fan" mentality and that spirit extends to our players," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We are thrilled that they recognize the importance of giving back, and are eager to go out of their way to do it."
The RiverDogs involvement with MUSC is nothing new. For the past twelve years, Charleston's favorite professional sports team has teamed with the MUSC Storm Eye Institute for the Kindness Beats Blindness Auction, which benefits the cause for curing blindness.
This year's auction is slated for Saturday, June 25 before the RiverDogs' game with the Kannapolis Intimidators. To send a donation or contribute an item for the auction, contact Melissa McCants at melissa@riverdogs.com.
Charleston welcomes the West Virginia Power for a four-game series beginning tonight at 7:05 pm. For more information or to order tickets to any RiverDogs game, please call the Riley Park Box Office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or log on to www.riverdogs.com.
