Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 9, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class-A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, are partnering with Cooperative Christian Ministry to participate in the Perdue "Step Up to the Plate" All-Star Challenge. The Challenge aims to help each South Atlantic League (SAL) community in the fight against hunger, and $1,000 will be given to each participating food bank that raises the equivalent of 5,000 meals in cooperation with its SAL team.
At every home game from now until June 12, the Intimidators will give out a free popcorn voucher to every fan who brings three non- perishable food items to the stadium for the Perdue All-Star Challenge. On Thursday, May 12, all proceeds from that night's "Launch-A-Ball" promotion will go toward the Challenge as well. There will also be a food drive on Sunday, May 29, when all fans who bring three non-perishable food items to the stadium will receive a free general admission ticket to the game.
"The Intimidators have a long standing relationship with Cooperative Christian Ministry, and it's a pleasure to work with them in the fight against hunger," says Intimidators GM Randy Long. "It's exciting to know that we're joining with 13 other teams in 13 other communities in the South Atlantic League to bring attention to this very important cause."
The mission of the ministry is to provide immediate assistance to members of the community who are experiencing crisis in the areas of food, shelter, or finances, while providing them access to resources that will empower them to move beyond crisis.
Winners of the Perdue "Step Up to the Plate" All-Star Challenge will be announced at the 2011 SAL All-Star Game in Salisbury, Md. on June 21. All prize money is being funded through the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation.
The Intimidators play their home games at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, located just off I-85 at exit 63. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at (704) 932-3267 or by going online to www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com .
