CHARLESTON, SC -- Teachers of the Year for Charleston County School District (CCSD) are selected annually and while anxiety awaits as to whom will be selected, the site of the selection is done: Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park and during Tuesday night's Charleston RiverDogs - West Virginia Power game that begins at 7:05 pm.
The five Teacher of the Year finalists (Braeden Kershner, Jason Kraeger, Eva Rutiri, Cynthia Smith and Mary Zena-White) were chosen from approximately 3,500 teachers in the district-level competition. The announcement will be made in the middle of the third inning.
"The Charleston RiverDogs are thrilled to partner with the Charleston County School District in hosting the site for this exciting announcement," said General Manager Dave Echols. "While this will be an exciting and rewarding time for the recipient, we congratulate all of the finalists and also the students who are positioned to learn from the best our School District has to offer."
As in previous years, Rick Hendrick Volvo of Charleston will be generously providing the CCSD Teacher of the Year with a one-year lease for a brand new Volvo. The Teacher of the Year will also be honored with a gold signet ring, and other gifts from different businesses in the community.
