Greene: Allowed 0 R on 3 H with 1 BB and 5 K over 7.0 IP in 5/03 Win @ DEL (11-0 RiverDogs)
POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Augusta 12-6 on Sunday. The Power backed Jameson Taillon with six early runs of support, and added six more from the sixth inning on. Matt Curry drove in five runs and hit his team-best fifth home run of the season. Kawika Emsley-Pai had three hits and drove in four runs.
OH SNAP: West Virginia stopped its road losing streak at seven with a 1-0 win Saturday night. The Power lost their first road game of the season (April 15 at Augusta), won the next three, were subsequently swept in five games at Kannapolis, and fell in the first two games of the Augusta series before winning the final two.
SERIES STARTING STRUGGLES: West Virginia dropped its sixth series opener in seven tries with a 7-6 loss Thursday at Augusta. The Power had lost their first five openers prior to a 5-2 win on April 30 against Greensboro.
MASTERING THE GREENJACKETS: West Virginia won the season series against Augusta 5-3. The Power lost the opener on April 14 and won the final three games during the series at Lake Olmstead Stadium from April 15 through 18 to take the set. Augusta still leads the all-time series 23-17, but the Power had never won more than twice (2007) on the road at the GreenJackets home park prior to winning five times there this season.
BRING ON THE BABY BOMBERS: West Virginia opens a series tonight in Charleston, SC against the RiverDogs. The Power and RiverDogs will play 15 times in 2011 after seeing each other only four times in 2010. West Virginia leads the all-time set 12-8, and have gone 6-6 since 2005 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
THE LONGAND SHORT OF IT: On Thursday, West Virginia played it longest game of the season time-wise, falling 7-6 in a nine-inning game that lasted three hours and 13 minutes. The Power's loss Friday occurred during their shortest game of the season; a nine inning affair that took only one hour and 58 minutes.
START ME UP: Jameson Taillon earned his first professional win on Sunday as the Power beat the GreenJackets. Taillon pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five. The 19 year-old right-hander holds a 1.64 ERA over his first three starts, with Sunday's being his longest outing of the season. Taillon was selected second overall by the Pirates during the 2010 draft, and is slated to pitch again in Friday's homestand opener against Kannapolis.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia had not split a series yet this season until the recent set at Augusta.The Power had won three series and lost three so far this season prior to the split with the 'Jackets... West Virginia pitchers combined for their fourth shutout of the season Saturday. The 2010 edition tossed eight total shutouts... The Power will open a four-game homestand against Kannapolis on May 13 at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia will wear special charity jerseys to be auctioned off to raise money for Relay for Life.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Houston 5-4 and moved its record to .500 for the season. The Pirates have not had a .500 or better record this late in the season since they were 30-30 on June 11, 2005... Indianapolis beat Norfolk 6-2... Altoona upended Richmond 7-2... Bradenton beat Charlotte 6-2, keyed by Aaron Baker's fourth home run of the season.
