Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 9, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators used a four run fourth inning to propel past the Lexington Legends, 9-6, on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

The four runs came on the back of two triples in the inning. DH Drew Lee's three-bagger led off the inning, while 2B Ross Wilson's third triple of the season drove in two runs. Overall, the Intimidators managed five hits in the frame to take an 8-2 lead.

Lexington took the initial lead right off the bat when the fourth hitter of the game, C Chris Wallace, smacked a double over the head of CF Trayce Thompson to drive in two runs and put the Intimidators in the hole, 2-0.

Kannapolis answered in the bottom of the second. Catcher Mike Blanke led the inning off with a double to left-center field. The next batter, 1B Dan Black, singled to right field to drive in Blanke. The drive to right was bobbled by Legends RF Adam Bailey, allowing Black to head to second on the error. Black advanced to third on a wild pitch, which helped Lee drive him home with a single to tie the score at 2-2.

The Intimidators took their first lead of the game the next inning. With runners on the corners and one out, LF Brady Shoemaker delivered a single to left field to drive in SS Kyle Eveland for the third run of the game. The next hitter, Blanke, got his first RBI of the night when he singled to left as well, which drove in Wilson from second to give Kannapolis the lead, 4-2.

Getting the win for Kannapolis was Ryan Buch (3-2), who gave up two runs on four hits in five innings. Phil Negus pitched the sixth and seventh for the Intimidators without surrendering a run. Lexington starter Carlos Quevedo (3-1) picked up the loss as he could not make it out of the fourth inning. Kannapolis tagged him for eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched.

Things got interesting in the top of the eighth, when an error by 3B Juan Silverio on a ground ball that could have ended the inning opened the door for three unearned runs. RHP Jake Wilson came on in relief of LHP Miguel Negron, who started the inning for Kannapolis, and was able to strike out CF Daniel Adamson, who represented what would have been the tying run, to end the inning. Wilson pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

The Intimidators continue their four game series against the Legends on Tuesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium at 7:05pm. Kannapolis will send RHP Matt Heidenreich (1-1, 6.65) to the mound against RHP Juan Minaya (0-2, 7.15) for Lexington.
