HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads claimed their fifth straight series win, sweeping the Kannapolis Intimidators at home, before dropping a road set against the Greensboro Grasshoppers over the weekend. 3B Christian Villanueva capped his clutch week with his third walk-off in only seven days, a game-winning solo homer against Kannapolis last Monday.
The Crawdads are currently 19-10 in the first half of the 2011 season, good for second place in the Northern Division, a half game behind the Hagerstown Suns.

HICKORY 3 vs. Kannapolis 2
The Crawdads won in dramatic fashion as 3B Christian Villanueva belted an offering from Kannapolis RHP Steven Upchurch over the left-field wall with one out in the ninth inning to give the 'Dads a 3-2 victory. Starter RHP Matt Thompson allowed only one run over six innings, earning a no-decision.
Tuesday, May 3
HICKORY vs. Kannapolis - CANCELLED
Tuesday's contest between the Crawdads and Intimidators was cancelled due to inclement weather in the bottom of the fourth inning. It will not be made up.
Thursday, May 5
GREENSBORO 4 vs. Hickory 2
Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the 'Dads tied it up after scoring once in both the seventh and eighth innings. However, the Grasshoppers knocked in a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 4-2 victory.
Friday, May 6
Hickory 7 vs. GREENSBORO 2
A pair of two-run home runs by RF Josh Richmond and C Tomas Telis helped propel the Crawdads to a 7-2 win, while RHP Randol Rojas dealt six innings for his league-best fifth victory.
Saturday, May 7
GREENSBORO 5 vs. Hickory 4
The Grasshoppers and Crawdads exchanged runs throughout the entire game with the Grasshoppers striking last, plating the eventual game-winning run on a sac fly by 3B Ryan Fisher in the seventh inning. C Kellin Deglan, LF Jonathan Roof, and 2B Odubel Herrera each drove in a run for the 'Dads.
Sunday, May 8
GREENSBORO 3 vs. Hickory 2
After the Crawdads took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth when RF Josh Richmond's sac fly scored C Tomas Telis, Greensboro responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth against RHP Nick Tepesch and RHP Ryan Rodebaugh. Greensboro RHP Sean Watson dealt a scoreless ninth for his third save of the series and ninth of the season.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
~C Tomas Telis is on a six-game hitting streak. He also has hits in eight of his last nine contests. In four of those games, Telis has recorded at least two hits.
~The Crawdads have allowed the third-fewest runs (105) and struck out the third-most hitters (261) in the SAL.
~Hickory has 43 stolen bases in 29 games which is second-best in the SAL.
~RHP Randol Rojas picked up two victories this week, moving him to a league-best 5-0.
~After not allowing a single run in his first 14.2 innings pitched this season (9 appearances), RHP Ryan Rodebaugh allowed a run on Sunday against Greensboro.
~Crawdads batters are third in batting average (.284), fifth in runs (150), and have struck out the second-fewest times (184) in the SAL.
~The Crawdads pitching staff owns the second-lowest ERA (3.76) in the league, and have allowed the second-fewest hits to opposing batters (227).
