Saints Walk off Dogs for Second-Straight Night

ST. PAUL, Minn. - In another hard-fought battle between playoff contenders, the Chicago Dogs were victims of a walkoff for the second straight night, falling to the St. Paul Saints 5-4 on Sunday evening at CHS Field.
After the Dogs rallied to tie the game down by two in the ninth, Chesny Young delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame.
Jake Dahlberg cruised with seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs - one earned - on four hits while striking out three and walking one. It marked the Vancouver, Washington native's third consecutive start with at least seven innings pitched and one or fewer earned runs.
St. Paul opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. A sacrifice fly by Jabari Henry put the Saints up 1-0, and Jeremy Martinez hit an RBI single on the next at-bat to push their lead to two.
In the top of the third, David Olmedo-Barrera sped home on a wild pitch to get Chicago on the board and cut the deficit to one.
An inning later, Tony Rosselli ripped a double off the center field wall to score Kelly Dugan and tie the game at two.
Dahlberg continued to shine, hurling six straight scoreless innings to keep the Saints at bay.
Rich Mascheri entered in the bottom of the eighth and recorded two outs before surrendering a go-ahead two-run double to Henry.
The lead was short-lived as the Dogs stormed back in the ninth. Trey Vavra led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, prompting St. Paul to bring Ken Frosch to close it out. Walks to Olmedo-Barrera and Keon Barnum then loaded the bases.
Another pitching substitution brought in Karch Kowalczyk, who struck Victor Roache with a pitch to send one run home. Two batters later, Jordan Dean drew a bases-loaded walk to score Olmedo-Barrera and knot the game at four.
In the bottom of the tenth, Luke Wilkins (L, 2-2) surrendered a leadoff double to Josh Allen, who later came around to score on Young's sacrifice fly.
RHP Carlos Zambrano (3-1, 5.47 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
