Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Tex. - The Cleburne Railroaders set a franchise record for runs scored on Saturday night, defeating the Texas AirHogs 22-2 at The Depot at Cleburne Station.
The Railroaders (54-38) banged out 15 hits and drew 12 walks, which also matched a franchise record. They scored ten runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, another record, on just one hit.
While the offense stole the show late, for much of the evening pitching dominated the script. Michael Gunn (5-0) did not allow a hit over six dominant innings, and Texas (25-67) did not record their first hit until one out in the top of the eighth. The two hits allowed by the Railroaders pitching staff matched a franchise low. Gunn surrendered just one unearned run on the night, striking out seven while walking two. Cleburne hurlers combined to strike out 13 AirHogs on the evening.
Several Railroaders had huge individual offensive performances. Angel Rosa finished 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five runs scored, establishing another franchise record. Daniel Robertson went 3-for-6 with four runs scored and five RBI, and Angel Reyes tied a franchise record by drawing four walks. Five different Cleburne hitters drove in at least three runs.
Travis Ballew (1-11) took the loss for Texas, allowing five runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings. Knuckleballer Chris Nowlin made his AirHogs debut in the bottom of the eighth, and allowed ten runs before exiting. Outfielder Justin Byrd recorded the final out of the night for Texas.
Jared Wilson, Braden Pearson and Bryan Saucedo each worked an inning of relief for Cleburne.
The Railroaders and AirHogs continue their series on Sunday night at 6:05 PM. Stephen Johnson (8-1, 3.68) gets the start for Cleburne, while Texas will counter with right-hander Zhang Tao (2-6, 4.63).
