Saints Outlast Dogs in 15-Inning Marathon

ST. PAUL, Minn. - In a pitcher's duel for the ages, the Chicago Dogs pitching staff allowed one run over fourteen innings before Chris Baker's game-winning RBI single in the 15th allowed the St. Paul Saints to escape, 2-1, on Saturday night at CHS Field.
At fifteen innings and a game time of four hours and 40 minutes, it was the longest game in Chicago Dogs history.
David Olmedo-Barrera hit the game-tying single in the top of ninth inning to prevent the Dogs from being shut out, providing the opportunity to win it in extras.
Dogs starter D.J. Snelten pitched another gem, allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out seven and walking none. It marked the University of Minnesota alum's fifth straight start of at least seven innings pitched, one or fewer earned runs and at least five strikeouts.
St. Paul tallied its lone run on a Chesny Young RBI single in the bottom of the second, making it 1-0 Saints.
Snelten then continued his dominant stretch of late with five straight scoreless frames to keep it a one-run game.
Casey Crosby tossed a scoreless bottom of the eighth to bring up one last chance for Chicago.
Trey Vavra and Gustavo Pierre led off the ninth with back-to-back walks off of Tanner Kiest. Two batters later, Olmedo-Barrera ripped his single into the left field corner to knot the game at one.
Crosby then threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
Justin Goossen-Brown (L, 1-1) pitched 5.2 scoreless frames, including escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the 13th, to maintain the stalemate before Baker's walkoff hit. The gutsy performance saw Goossen-Brown throw 93 pitches in long relief.
LHP Jake Dahlberg is slated to start game two of the series tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
