Akron RubberDucks News Release
Summary
Akron's Bryson Myles collected three hits and drove in four runs, including a three-run homer, Friday night as the RubberDucks cruised to a 12-2 win over the Altoona Curve at People's Natural Gas Field.
Turning Point
With the RubberDucks leading 4-1, Myles cracked a three-run shot to left-center field off Altoona starter Matt Benedict (4-5) in the fourth inning to give the RubberDucks a comfortable, 7-1 lead. It was his fourth homer of the season, and one of his three hits on the night.
Mound Presence
Shawn Morimando (8-10) started and emerged with a win for the RubberDucks. He worked six innings and allowed just two runs on the six hits. It was Morimando's second consecutive win and third overall against the Curve this season. He maintained his 2.99 ERA, which ranked 10th in the ERA going into play Friday. Morimando walked two and struck out only one. He threw 98 pitches in the game, 60 of which were strikes. Right-handers Louis Head (2 IP) and Josh Martin (1 IP) provided scoreless relief.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks (55-52) added five more runs in the fifth to take a commanding 12-1 lead. Myles added an RBI double in the fifth, his fourth RBI of the night. He needed a triple to complete the cycle, but walked in his final two plate appearances in the seventh and ninth. Shortstop Eric Stamets made his Indians organization debut and went 2-5, with a pair of singles and two RBI. He laced a run-scoring single to center in his first at-bat. Ronny Rodriguez and Jordan Smith had three hits apiece. Catcher Jake Lowery drove in a pair of runs with a single in the 4th and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Carlos Moncrief chipped in two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored.
